IRacing has released 2026 Season 1 - this is the case when the update feels not just in patchnotes, but with the first very first braking. This season brings new content to the asphalt, with notable physics improvements and several QoL updates, which save your nerves before the start.
New cars: There are new things to occupy your head and hands with.
The star of this show would be Porsche 911 Cup (992.2). Cup-class was always about discipline: A little too late on the brakes, too much on the steer, got the back of your car slightly off - and suddenly your car spins out faster than a centrifuge. In the new release the focus was placed upon aerodynamics and wheels, so that the vehicle would be even more true to real piloting experience, and even more aggressive towards imprecise and sudden motions.
A special mention is deserved by Toyota GR86 with physics that was built up essentially from the ground up. It is important for those who want to feel a serious fight for control without a feeling that their car "Lives its own life": such updates make the behavior easier to understand and more stable.

New tracks:
2026 S1 adds two new tracks, and both are about a different type of concentration:
Miami International Autodrome - modern configuration with bright areas and apexes, where it is easy to lose your tempo at the very beginning, and then "pay off" your mistakes by the end.
Adelaide Street Circuit - street classic: thin, brutal, and any mistake - no longer "off-track", but a full loss of time and position. Street races are not about heroism, they are about precision.

Physics and vehicles: updates that bring speed
In the release there are many system fixes and changes, which do not exactly put a "Wow" on your lips, but work as a good setup on the track. Said changes, which are related to the behavior in water and dush - is just about how handling changes and how predictable your car in the "dirty" spots.
There also are more precise, individual updates:
Dallara IR18 has received a hybrid system update and a visual refresh - useful to those, who likes precise games on IndyCar.
Some minor GT3 fixes - typically more precise feel balance regulations: Stability with braking, behavior in slipstream, predictability in a tight formation.
For NASCAR Truck Series the aerodynamic fixes were made - an another discipline, but the logic is the same: Less "Magic", more actual reasonable connections between issues.

UI and Quality of Life (QoL): Less clicks, more circles.
New Sim UI continues to come to a proper form. A new search bar has appeared in the settings (Editor's note: FINALLY) - a small detail, but it saves when you quickly need a necessary thing. Along with that - separate widgets (Lap time, relative, table, weather) and their setup through the editor: size, position, transparency. At the end the workspace seems more like a regular cockpit, instead of an unreasonable number of windows and tables.
What does this mean for our beginning of the year races
This season looks like a good reason to "Rethink" your habits: renew apexes and references, once again try to get the braking paths, and check how did your car change. And yes - this new year is a good time to start with IRacing: Fresh content + physics updates make the fights tighter, more interesting and more fair. In Maxwell SimRacing this is the moment, where you can assemble your calendar and begin your new, proper racing series, and not just driving "for fun".
